Info

Dulwich Flute Lessons, founded in 2019, offers individual, one-to-one flute classes and chamber music coaching to local students in SE London.

Lessons take place on a weekly basis during school term-time, either at the pupils home or at a private music studio in East Dulwich in south east London. New pupils from the age of 7 upwards through to advanced level (such as ABRSM Grade 8 and ABRSM Diploma levels) are very welcome, including new pupils wanting to learn for their own interest. Advice on choosing a suitable instrument for beginners can be provided along with advice regarding flute repairs, upgrading instruments and selecting new flute headjoints. A piano accompanist can be provided for ABRSM exam sessions in London and pupils who are performing in local concerts.

Tuition is available either in-person or online (FaceTime and Zoom) from 2pm through to 9pm on weekdays. Vacant lesson slots are offered on a first-come, first-served basis.

Fife and Piccolo instruments

Fife and piccolo lessons are available to all pupils who want to explore these flute-related instruments.

The fife is an excellent and increasingly popular introduction to music for young beginners, enabling them to form the basics of flute playing without having the expense of buying a regular flute. The small size and weight of the instrument makes it a practical choice for very young pupils.

The piccolo is used mostly in ensemble or orchestral music, however the instrument has a long history of solo repertory. The demands of the instrument presents many challenges quite different from the regular flute.
